How We Learn
Multiple Intelligences
In 1983 Howard Gardner published Frames of Mind: The Theory of Multiple Intelligences. In it he suggests that each of us possess seven independent intelligences. Working together, these intelligences enable people to solve problems and/or create products with varying levels of skill.
The seven "intelligences" are:
- Verbal/Spatial Intelligence
- Verbal/Linguistic Intelligence
- Logical/Mathematical Intelligence
- Bodily/Kinesthetic Intelligence
- Musical/Rhythmic Intelligence
- Interpersonal Intelligence
- Intrapersonal Intelligence
The inclusion of all intelligences in structuring learning experiences, makes learning more natural and effective.
