How We Learn
Multiple Intelligences
Reference Desk In 1983 Howard Gardner published Frames of Mind: The Theory of Multiple Intelligences. In it he suggests that each of us possess seven independent intelligences. Working together, these intelligences enable people to solve problems and/or create products with varying levels of skill.

The seven "intelligences" are:

  • Verbal/Spatial Intelligence
  • Verbal/Linguistic Intelligence
  • Logical/Mathematical Intelligence
  • Bodily/Kinesthetic Intelligence
  • Musical/Rhythmic Intelligence
  • Interpersonal Intelligence
  • Intrapersonal Intelligence

The inclusion of all intelligences in structuring learning experiences, makes learning more natural and effective.
