How We Learn
Learning Styles

Reference Desk We all learn in different ways. There are two complementary theories which describe the ways in which people learn: Learning Styles and Multiple Intelligences. Learning Styles describes three styles: Visual, Auditory and Tactile/Kinesthetic.
  • Visual learners are most successful when they see something demonstrated or illustrated.
  • Auditory learners hear information and are able to understand and retain what they've heard.
  • Tactile or Kinesthetic learners need to touch and manipulate objects or physically complete a task or exercise.

No one way is right or best, however, it is important to know which way is best for an individual learner. Then, the instruction can be tailored to the learner. To investigate your learning style and learn how to put it to work for you, visit http://www.ldpride.net/learningstyles.MI.htm#types of learning styles.
