The And Model

The And Model
Educational Dividends has a unique, proven approach to student learning. Our projects use The And Model, a term we developed to say there is not one magic way to effectively educate all students, rather schools need to use a variety of resources and methods to assist students in learning and applying knowledge. Key components of The And Model include:

  • Integrated Technology
  • Relevant and Challenging Problem Solving
  • Standards Correlation
  • Facilitative Learning
  • Community Involvement
  • Cross-Curricular Implementation

In the classroom, The And Model provides teachers and students with clear direction, information and resources related to the project but encourages students to engage in the real world discovery of facts. Teachers become facilitators who encourage students to ask more questions, provide resources for learning, assess student progress and manage the learning process. In an article on Memory and Learning in the October 2000 issue of Training and Development Magazine, Educator Jeb Schenk accurately portrayed why this type of learning is effective.

"As you would imagine, the more active a student is in the learning process, the greater the long term memory."

Our projects involve students so they retain information and build skills for life long learning.

The components of The And Model are woven through Educational Dividends' projects to engage students in learning while allowing them to apply their knowledge and skills. Through the project teachers and students learn:

  • Facilitation Skills that Empower Students to Lead Their Learning
  • Techniques for Student Assessment
  • Facilitation Skills for Teachers Working with Peers
  • Tools for Cross-Curricular Teaching
  • Tools for Assessing Project Needs and Identifying Community Resources
  • Methods for Maintaining a Win-Win Community Partnership
